FAQ

Here are the most common questions I get from site owners. Still curious about something? Just ask!

What happens after I sign up for a Runguard plan?

After you join, I’ll first need some Site Access information from you. That includes a WordPress administrator account and FTP/Server access. Don’t worry if you’re not sure where to find this – I’ll help you locate this information if needed.

Next, I’ll complete an initial site assessment and run a series of benchmarks of your site. This gives me a baseline to compare to after I start optimizing. I’m typically able to make significant improvements in site performance for my clients, and these first tests help me measure the improvements.

Then I’ll set up your site with my lightweight management tools and run an initial backup and security scan. I’ll configure automatic daily or weekly backups (depending on your plan) and daily security scanning.

Finally, I’ll fix any critical issues I found during the initial assessment and take care of your immediate concerns. Think of it as giving your site a complete health check and tune-up right from the start.

Which plan do I need?

Essential Care is intended to cover the bases of security and site speed. I’ll get you set up for Core Web Vitals success, backups, and security, but you’ll still need to take care of a few things yourself, such as updates and image optimization.

Complete Care enables me to be much more active with the management and support of your site: I’ll take care of updates, optimize your images, monitor your site’s uptime, and help you out with requests you may have.

Premium Care means you’re at the very top of my client priority list, and I’ll be able to dedicate even more time to your site’s specific needs and your requests, while ensuring your site is at its best. I’ll also join your Google Search Console account, so I can jump in proactively to help with all of those scary-sounding notices they send out.

Okay, but which should I choose? It all comes down to the level of involvement you’d like me to have in the running of your site, and where you are in your growth journey. In terms of traffic, the ranges noted below are indicative of the right plan to match the amount of support required. You can always choose a higher plan earlier if you’d like more help, but if your site’s traffic is above these thresholds, I’ll ask you to upgrade.

So, to sum it all up…

Essential Care – for when you’re still starting up and putting things together. Up to 1 million pageviews/month. 📈

Complete Care – for when you’ve grown and want to spend more of your time on your site’s content and business, meaning I do more for you. Up to 5 million pageviews/month. 💪

Premium Care – for when your site is thriving and you need to have complete peace of mind that I’m taking care of it all. More than 5 million pageviews/month. 🤯

What information will I need from you?

In order to provide comprehensive WordPress support I’ll need an administrator account in WordPress and access to your server, usually via your hosting account, so I can get everything setup and take care of any issues that arise. Other than that I just collect standard billing information and an email address for notifications.

Does it matter who hosts my site?

A quality web host makes a huge difference in your site’s performance and can even improve your search engine rankings. If you’re happy with your current host then there is a good chance that everything will be fine. For clients who are having issues with their host or are looking for more performance, I can point you toward affordable, high quality hosting providers that are tailored to your needs.

What if something breaks my site?

If a WordPress core, plugin, or theme update breaks your site I’ll either fix it or restore a backup. I always have a site backup available before I apply updates and test after. Sometimes plugins simply aren’t compatible with the latest version of WordPress or they are no longer being maintained by their developer. In those cases, I’ll do my best to find a replacement to recommend.

I have more than one site. Should I buy a separate plan for each?

Yes – each website needs its own dedicated plan. This ensures I can properly set up and maintain all the security, backup, and optimization features for each site individually. It also allows me to dedicate the appropriate attention and development time to keep each of your sites performing at its best.

Why do you limit the number of clients?

As a dedicated WordPress expert, I made the conscious decision to limit my client base to ensure exceptional service quality. Having worked in larger agencies where developers juggle dozens of clients, I witnessed firsthand how this approach often leads to rushed work and delayed responses. By maintaining strict client limits for each service tier, I can provide the focused attention and rapid response times that WordPress sites deserve.

How did you determine the number of slots per tier?

Through careful analysis and experience, I calculated the optimal number of clients I can serve while maintaining premium service levels. Essential Care has 8 slots because these sites require regular but predictable maintenance. Complete Care is limited to 4 slots as these clients need more hands-on support. Premium Care has just 2 slots because these clients receive extensive, priority attention. These numbers allow me to balance comprehensive care with sustainable work hours.

What happens if all slots are filled?
When a tier reaches capacity, I maintain a waitlist for interested clients. Your position on the waitlist is secured with a small deposit, which is fully credited to your first month of service. Importantly, any time spent waiting is deducted from your first month’s payment – if you wait two weeks for a slot, you’ll only pay for two weeks of that first month.

What if I need help while on the waitlist?
While waiting for a slot, I’m happy to provide recommendations for temporary solutions or emergency support if needed. I can also suggest trusted colleagues who might have immediate availability if your needs are urgent.

Why not simply accept more clients?
Quality over quantity is central to my business philosophy. Additional clients would mean either hiring help (reducing the personal service I pride myself on) or compromising on service quality. I believe in being honest about my capacity rather than overpromising and underdelivering.
